An Edited Approach Towards the Skin’s Microbiome ft. Dahlia Devkota, Founder of Editrix Wellness, Podcast Summary
In this episode, Ekta sits with Dahlia Devkota, Founder of Editrix Wellness, to discuss her journey from the editorial field into the skincare industry.
“It was really an organic process; I did not set out to start a brand. I really started out as a beauty editor, and came from the editorial space, did it for a number of years. I worked with Allure Magazine, was a beauty editor at W Magazine, and really felt like I had seen everything, had tired so much, and got disillusioned.” (Devkota).
Although Dahlia had no intention of going into skincare as a founder, her sister’s study of the microbiome and its relation to the skin fueled Dahlia’s fire to push a brand that incorporates up-to-date scientific discoveries into skincare.
“I just felt that skin health wasn’t being addressed through this pathway, in a real scientific way, so I just asked her (Dahlia’s sister), ‘can we go into R&D together and let’s just see what we discover,’ and she was gracious enough to do this with me!” (Devkota).
Through their discoveries incorporating microbiome studies, they have made tremendous strides. For example, the sisters found a bacterium on all skin, staphylococcus epidermidis. Dahlia and her sister want to continue their studies of the microbiome and will continue to update products as well!
“We’re really on the trespass of this knowledge, but I don’t want to claim that we have unlocked every truth of the microbiome. We’re just scratching the surface and there’s gonna be new research, and we’re going to be more involved with the research as it comes along.” (Devkota).
