Angela Melero, Executive Editor of The Zoe Report, Podcast Summary
This week Ekta talks to Angela Melero, Executive Editor of The Zoe Report, who primarily oversees the sites lifestyle content. Angela did not have the traditional journalism journey, but she always knew that she wanted to be a writer, especially within the beauty industry.
Joyce had an aspiration to learn and grow while starting her career in a small business magazine in her hometown of Los Angeles. Although her background in cosmetics was minimal at the time, it did not stop her from making an impact and understanding the editorial side of beauty.
“I grew up with this naturally beautiful Mexican mother who had a very minimal beauty routine, so I grew up with moisturizer, foundation, brush your hair every day, and go forth. I think coming in and becoming an editor, I just realized the complexities of beauty and how much there is to explore.” (Melero).
The idea of makeup and the trend of skin wellness are her favorite topics to write on while working with The Zoe Report. But she has learned that the industry is constantly changing, especially in the world of social media influences and brands popping out every day.
“I don’t know if there’s a way to keep up with trends. I don’t even know if you would call them trends anymore. I think its just a cycle that we’re seeing that’s a rapid cycle of looks that people are trying and really having fun with. We’ve done a lot of features on the end of the “trend”. Everyone is just embracing what they love.” (Melero).
Angela loves working with The Zoe Report not only because of the continuous learning experiences but being part of the brand's goal is to open the door to the importance of health and wellness in the beauty industry.
“These days, I’m doing so many fun and important things with The Zoe Report. We are really building out our wellness vertical because, as you know, that is definitely an extension of beauty.” (Melero).
