Dia Foley, Founder of Community Sixty-Six, Podcast Summary
This week Ekta talks to Dia Foley, the Founder of Community Sixty-Six, as they celebrated their launch on Sephora.com on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022. Foley’s relationship with the cosmetic industry dates to childhood as she discusses her rise from a small makeup artist to now a renowned CEO!
“I was trained as a makeup artist and started working at a department store at Eaton’s. I used to be a Cosmetic Manager, and it took off from there. A mom that needed a part-time job that involved a bigger job.” (Foley).
Foley wanted not only to create a line that gave excellent results but that related to the time management and health of the skin. She wanted a simple line that the average consumer can use that does not eat into their daily life.
“We made something that was super simple for the consumer to use without sacrificing the deliverable…All you need to do is get up in the morning, use your products, keep it simple and get out the door without having to be a bathroom chemist.” (Foley).
She saw that many brands in the skincare community are the catalyst to why many consumers see their skincare products as cosmetics rather than medicine for the skin.
“Somewhere along the line, we forgot that skin is an organ! We treat it like it’s just this external layer that we have. But we don’t understand the complexity of skin because most people don’t talk about it because it’s not ‘sexy.’” (Foley).
The overall goal of Community Sixty-Six is to change the idea of fast-paced cure-all expectations of skincare products and focus on the importance of skin health and seeing the natural beauty of the skin without the complexity of products and ingredients.
“Health is what we’re going for here. I don’t even like using the word anti-aging because it’s right up there with instant results and miraculous. We’re all aiming for better aging. It’s all about being healthy…Perfect skin doesn’t exist; that’s just setting us up for failure.” (Foley).
