Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, Founder of ReVive Skincare, Podcast Summary
This week in part one of three masterclass series, Ekta sits down with Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, and Founder of ReVive Skincare, to celebrate the line’s 25th anniversary in skincare!
Dr. Brown always knew that the line of medicine was where he wanted to be, even at an early age. After going through medical school and wanted to work in plastic surgery and then went on to be a general surgeon. While going through this process, he took some years off to focus on his research. And that was when the idea of ReVive Skincare came to fruition.
“I am a plastic surgeon, and I decided at an early age that I wanted to be a doctor. And I went to medical school and knew early on that, luckily, I wanted to be a surgeon, but I was not sure what kind. But then, eventually, I spent time at a Burn Unit and realized I wanted to be a plastic surgeon. So, I trained in general surgery, first went to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and became a general surgeon. Then I took a couple of years off and did basic research, and that’s really where the novice of ReVive came from.” (Brown).
Through his research and study of burn wounds and their healing process, he worked with a group of scientists at the University of California San Francisco Parnassus that made human proteins to test and increase growth factors. From there, Dr. Brown continued his research with several universities in the USA and went into academic practice in Louisville, Kentucky.
“So, I had the idea that maybe these peptides proteins that had stimulated burn wound healing could stabilize or reverse the science of aging and made what ultimately became ReVive a makeshift form of ReVive and then finally a professional preparation of ReVive.” (Brown).
Although Dr. Brown never intentionally set out to create a skincare line, he is grateful for the success of healing burn wounds and assisting with the aging process. He continues to keep up with the research on skincare while comparing it to plastic surgery. Dr. Brown understands the advantages and disadvantages of plastic surgery and that the skincare concept is essential in
maintaining not only younger-looking but healthy skin.
“One of the reasons that I think ReVive has grown all these years is because we are brutally honest about what can be expected and what can’t be expected. As you know, the industry is filled with hyperbole, and we try not to do that!” (Brown).
