Dr. Michele Koo, Plastic Surgeon and Founder of Private Practice by Dr. Koo
This week Ekta talks to Dr. Michele Koo, Founder of Private Practice by Dr. Koo. Dr. Koo grew up in Palo Alto and went to Stanford University and ended up going to Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, she did her Plastic Surgery, collagen metabolism and wound healing there.
“When I was in general surgery I was trying to decide what specialty I wanted, but seeing all the different types of specialties, I wanted to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives in a way that empowered them. I wanted to make people happy with themselves, and I thought ‘Wow! What better way to do that than plastic surgery. I started on the skincare journey, most plastic surgeons are not necessarily interested in skin care because we work with our hands. We transpose, we move, we repair, we shift tissue. There isn’t anything that you have that I can’t fix or make better. In all my 28 years, I was selling skincare to support my patients, giving them and myself a lot of private labeled brands and I thought ‘These are really expensive.’” (Koo).
Dr. Koo talks about her history practicing medicine as well as her medical based skincare brand. “I didn’t go the beauty route, I truly went to the medical model.” (Koo).
