FENTY & Victoria Beckham Skin = The Only Acceptable Modern Celebrity Brands We Can Think Of.
…BUT FIRST A NOTE FROM OUR LISTENERS TO BRAD PITT:
Not all of us can be the Steve Jobs to Bill Gates.
-Bobby Harris (New York)
I have zero celebrity brand products and I’m ok with that.
-Kaitlyn Rosen (Colorado)
Rihanna is just one of those people that happen once in a blue moon. Her genius in regards to her beauty and skincare lines for FENTY stemmed from her direct involvement and immersion into her vision.
I still remember watching promo videos and YouTube content around the launch of the epic foundation library by FENTY and hearing her explain the process of why she created the line in a specific way.
She boldly declared and demonstrated that no corners were cut and no sacrifices made in quality and innovation.
This is the most beautiful example of how Beauty can create real change that I know of to date. She made magic happen because she invested herself into what she was creating. She hired the RIGHT team, dove into it with them and got her vision across to them CLEARLY.
Although this may come across as me going on and on, it’s a point I think we can clearly agree is the reason Rihanna is , and always will be the true queen of Celebrity Created Beauty.
Now onto my favorite topic, SKINCARE!
If you know good skincare then you know that the VB+AB duo created magic with the beautiful products in Victoria’s Skin Infused Makeup Category.
I think when I really break it down, I simply love how Victoria Beckham did things because it felt classic, like Old Hollywood endorsements, rather than a “shove” in your face.
She went to the best Science Scholar we knew of as an industry: Dr Augustinus Bader. She went to the best business partner imaginable, Sarah Creal, for her IMMENSE experience (and also due to Creal’s contribution to VB’s personal Beauty choices and style choices over the years), and did the HOMEWORK around the WORK of the real leaders of this industry .
Victoria Beckham and Rihanna both put their dollars in the right places and invested in true visionaries.
Most celebrities don’t do that which is why it always feels so “abrupt” and disruptive in the worst way. Long story short, there is no better consolation for me as a consumer than knowing that the person behind the vision is someone who has the TIME to create something meaningful for our industry at large.
In conclusion, and just to provide more context, I don’t think we can deny that these two examples remind us of why we STILL covet and enjoy Elizabeth Taylor Perfumes- I should’ve started with this part !
Sorry for the gigantic run on sentence ⬆️.
But yea, Celeb Skincare is cancelled in my mind for now and we need to just move forward as an industry with unity and pride and not take offense, but rather admire the fact that Celebs want a piece of the best cake ever made by every member of the community: The Beauty Business.
“The new celebrities are the makeup artists and the stylists and the designers. They’re the minds behind Beauty. To take anything away from their hard work is unprofessional.”
