I Hope You Love Your Skin
No, really
I hope you love your skin. I hope you know that your skin is worthy of love. I hope you know that the very largest organ of your body, beautifully wraps you. And I hope that you know that very wrapping is beautiful.
You grew up in this skin and it’s been with you for years. From pesky teen break outs to the first sightings of wrinkles, your skin tells a story and it’s one of beauty. Your skin was made just for you and no matter the changes that it goes through, I hope you love your skin.
Dents, craters, blemishes, scars. Sensitive, red, oily, dry. However it comes, however it changes, your skin is the skin that you are in. Your worth, your value, your beauty and your validity to take up space do not vary or shift based on what the state of your skin is. You are more than the state of your skin.
I hope you appreciate the versatility of your skin and embrace its changes. Where society has only pointed out the issues with it and tells you why you should be at enmity with your skin, I hope that you find resolve to disagree and disagree with vigor.
There’s products filling up your sink area and cabinet and when you take time to stare at yourself in the mirror, my hope is that you take joy in what you see no matter where your skin is. You can buy all the masks, all the toners, and all the acids but at the very core of your intentionality in using these products– I hope it’s because you love your skin.
And take note that there is nothing wrong with desiring to improve your skin. We tell you all about products that you can add to your routine. But have fun with it, don’t take care of your skin because you hate it, take care of it because you love it. The days are far gone for you to walk into Sephora and grudgingly ask where the hyaluronic acid is because you *despise* your dryer skin. You can love your skin and instead jubilantly ask where the products to help with moisture are.
Here’s the thing. Your skin is the skin that you are in. Your skin is lovely. And the journey to loving it can be a long one, but it is one that’s worth your while. Your skin is worth loving, and I hope you love your skin.
