Indulging In a New Category of Fragrance: Aroma Perfumery, Ft. Laura McCann, Founder of Adoratheraphy, Podcast Summary
In this episode, Ekta sits with Laura McCann, Founder of Adoratheraphy, to discuss her journey into holistic wellness through the combination of ancient Egyptian medicine. Through her health issues resulting from her use of her physical and mental well-being, she went on a journey to understand aromatherapy which would change her life forever
“When I was first introduced to aromatherapy, I had no idea how to use it. And so, I brought beautiful products, or I was given beautiful products, and my initial foray into the business was the woman who created these beautiful blends, who is a healer and an aromatherapist. I had aa collection of chakra oils, and I just had no idea what to do with them. So, they just sat there, and I looked at them for a very long time. And part of it was, explaining these ideas in a context of modern-day language around beauty is going to fall short.” (McCann).
Through her discovery and understanding, Laura saw that the medical practices of ancient Egypt and modern aromatherapy were not so different but complemented each other. Although she understands that cultural traditions are taken for granted, she wanted to pay homage to such an incredible era of therapeutic practice.
“I’m very sensitive to the fact that some of these things, culturally, are appropriated, but at the same time, it’s so important to understand that it’s still one universe, one world, and we can borrow from certain practices and methods if we feel like it’s going to create a more integrated human consciousness.” (McCann).
More than anything else, Laura wanted to promote the idea of aromatherapy as an extraordinary self-care journey, and Adoratherapy does that and more!
“Wellness is often described as a journey of self-care, but for me, aromatherapy as a language of healing is really about adoring yourself, which is part of why the company is named Adoratheraphy!” (McCann).
