This week join Ekta in our conclusion to our five-part Masterclass with Jan Marini to continue the discussion of skin discoloration, its effects, and methods to battle the standard issue.
“What determines whether or not you want to treat pigment, and how you want to treat pigment — and that’s the thing, is if you’re concerned about pigment, you want it to go away, or you want to lessen it and blend it in — is what type of pigment you have in terms of how it’s going to react to various treatments, whether it is laser treatments or topical treatments.” (Marini).
Jan even goes through a personalization study of clients to view their understanding of discoloration and other age issues.
“They’re done in focus groups where they’ve shown individuals pictures of people that have fine lines and wrinkles and pictures of people that have uneven pigment, and they guessed the individuals with the pigment as older than the individuals with fine lines and wrinkles.” (Marini).
Jan concludes this class with a deep dive into acne and its effects on the pigmentation of the skin.
“The first thing you want to do is prevent the breakouts so that you don’t have to worry about the discoloration. Acne starts in the follicle. Once you have a lesion, that’s the end of the process.” (Marini).
