  1. What are the stats on Rosacea? Who gets Rosacea?
“It is an actual disease. Over 16 million Americans suffer from Rosacea, now that is a statistic that is very low, unless you go to your dermatologist and it’s noted that you have rosacea, many people probably think they just have red skin or acne.”
  2. What exactly is Rosacea?
“The onset of Rosacea is between the ages of 30 and 50, that doesn’t mean you can’t get it if you’re younger or older. It’s more prevalent in females and usually it’s most prevalent in fair skin individuals.”
  3. What are the characteristics of Rosacea?
“It’s a chronic inflammatory disorder. Your blood vessels are designed to expand and contract and in Rosacea, these blood vessels are compromised. They’ve lost this ability to have this flexibility and their integrity. A common characteristic, because of that is redness, or flushing and blushing.”
  4. Is there a cure for Rosacea?
“There is no cure for Rosacea, you can manage it and look like you don’t have it but there is no cure.”
  5. Is Rosacea hereditary?
“In a sense it is. You inherit your fair skin, but it’s not just the fact that you have fair skin, you’re just more vulnerable.”
  6. What is the solution for Rosacea?
“When we talk about a solution, there’s a misconception. A lot of times, people refer to Rosacea as sensitive skin. It’s not a disease of sensitivity, you could have really sensitive skin and not have Rosacea, you could have Rosacea and not have sensitive skin. It is a disease of reactivity and you’re reacting to certain triggers. Most of the time a dermatologist will prescribe an antibiotic, not because there’s a targeted organism, but because it’s an anti-inflammatory.”
  7. I have bumps that look like acne? Are they acne?
“The difference between rosacea and acne, one of the superficial differences, is that you can go to bed with Rosacea lesions and in the morning they could be gone, they’re transient. From a pathological standpoint, if you were to biopsy a Rosacea lesion, it always has a microcomedone, you can’t have Rosacea without a microcomedone, that’s the beginning of the acne process. In Rosacea, there’s no microcomedone. It’ll look like an acne lesion but there’s no microcomedone.”
  8. Does alcohol cause Rosacea?
“If you know people with Rosacea and they have alcohol, sometimes they really flush and blush, their Rosacea flares up.”
  9. Can climate/weather influence Rosacea?
“The number one factor of Rosacea is sun exposure.”
  10. What are the primary food triggers?
“It could be alcohol, caffeine, spicy food.”
