Rosacea Management Skincare That Is Balanced in Nature & Nurture ft. Shannon Johnson, Nurse Practitioner & Founder & Chief Formulator for MeridaSKIN
In this episode, Ekta sits with Shannon Johnson, Nurse Practitioner and Founder & Chief Formulator of MeridaSKIN, to discuss her journey into the skincare market, which began with her battle with rosacea.
“Merida Skin emerged as the solution to my own skin problems. I developed rosacea at 30, and that was my first real experience with problem skin. I had pretty easy skin up until that point. I was a nurse practitioner, and I was working in primary care, so I had some experience working with skin problems but relied on my dermatology consultants a lot as well. So, I knew what I was supposed to do for my rosacea and went through the whole algorithm. Frankly, I had no success. It was a really frustrating journey.” (Johnson).
Shannon went through multiple products to find something that would work for her skin, and there was an issue at every turn.
“I kept going through this revolving door of products, trying to find something I could wash and moisturize my face with, that didn’t make it seem angry.” (Johnson).
Soon Shannon would take matters into her own hands. With her knowledge of her skin issues, her patients, and the assistance of dermatology experts, MeridaSKIN was born!
“All the attempts that have been made to update [skincare product regulations] it, and there have been many, have been met with lobbying resistance, that is formidable. So, I think it has to be consumer driven, ultimately what matters is what consumers want, and if consumers get savvy enough, in great enough numbers, they’ll start shopping based on, ‘do you have your patch test results on your website or on your bottle?’ …. The words gentle and hypoallergenic, they mean nothing.” (Johnson).
