The Beauty Metaverse May Be Gamer Girl Heaven
I recently caught a glimpse of the beauty metaverse when I stumbled upon Neha Singh’s post about her company’s amazing platform for creating tools that allow you to see an avatar as close to your skin shade, face shape etc. apply on some amazing products by Charlotte Tilbury’s line. I don’t think there is a better way to express my sentiments as a true gamer girl other than, this is like rediscovering The Sims all over again- but for beauty!
I am so excited to see the beauty industry moving into this virtual realm of endless possibilities but it remains a point of discussion in the sense of, who is being targeted by these innovations? The response I had is something only a person who grew up playing MMORPGs would understand in so many ways.

For so many years, gamers worldwide have struggled with one issue: customization of their gaming avatars. This is a genuine , on-going must have to make any game more attractive to the now predominant, female, gaming audience !
I remember spending hours on my Sims character trying to make every detail on it look exactly like myself but the colors of skin shades or limitations in lip colors or makeup customization were things I /pined/ for ! They made the whole experience more immersive and it led to hours of time spent playing a game that would lead to major sales for the company behind it (e.g.Arena Net for Guild Wars 1–2 had about 20 customized face shapes or 5 hair styles-see below) via costume packs or add ons that would hopefully get me a bit closer to having the most epic looking character as compared to my friends.
It was a thing, trust me.
Long story short: we as humans love seeing ourselves displayed in a way that’s an external perspective of us. The customization that is being introduced now into the metaverse for beauty brands is such a huge leap not only for the conventional beauty audience but perhaps even more intriguing to an entire niche of beauty consumers who already know how to navigate this very familiar landscape of avatar customization, us millennial gamers (and trust me when I say there are a ton of us out there just waiting to play )
