The Power of Japanese Inspired Hair Rituals Merged into A Brilliant Formulation ft. Lynn Power, Co-Founder of Masami Haircare, Podcast Summary
In this episode, Ekta sits with Lynn Power, Co-founder of Masami Haircare, to discuss how Japanese haircare rituals’ unique and nourishing techniques influenced herself and Co-founder James Hammett to formulate this revolutionary brand. Lynn comes from the marketing world, from her 30-plus years in advertising and assisting brand founders as the CEO of Jay Walter Thompson New York. But, in 2018, all would change for her as Lynn embarked on a new adventure in beauty after meeting James.
“I left my CEO job at the agency and people thought I was crazy, but I then met my co-founder James, this was one of those times where the universe just intervenes and presents you with an opportunity and you can’t say no, and James had been working on our formulations for 10 years. I kinda was like, this guy is absolutely crazy, or he’s a genius.” (Power).
Lynn was empowered by James’s ability to see and cater to what the consumer is missing within their hair care routine, and the two made it their prime mission not to formulate clean products but for their clients to feel and see an actual difference.
“He’s a perfectionist (James Hammett), and he wanted the formula’s to be hydrating without weighing your hair down, and he wanted to be inclusive and work on every hair type. To make clean hair care, people don’t realize, at least in the U.S., consumers are used to a lot of foams and suds and ‘cleaning cues’ and when you take the sulfates out, you lose that detergent and people don’t think their hair is getting clean, but the reality is that it absolutely is!” (Power).
After five years of excellence and success, Lynn is proud of the continuous progress that she and James have made. However, she does not regret leaving the corporate world as she found a new passion in beauty and never wants to look back!
“I really gravitated towards beauty, I enjoyed beauty, I like that it’s this blend of right and left brain thinking because it really is about emotional and rational. To me, that’s pretty interesting.” (Power).
