This week Ekta talks to Vanessa Coppola, APN-C, FNP-BC. Vanessa is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, who specializes in non-surgical facial aesthetics and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. Vanessa developed a love of aesthetics at an early age when she first discovered the transformational power of makeup and the interplay of shadow and light. She self-confesses she loves makeup, and even considered becoming a professional makeup artist at one point in time, she emphasizes the beauty behind shaping and changing someone’s face to enhance their natural beauty. “I love the way you can enhance someone’s natural beauty with some contour and some
highlight.” (Coppola). She began to study facial anatomy and was an avid follower of facial beauty analysis, including the work of Dr. Stephen Marquardt and the applications of the Golden Ratio in anatomy, art, and nature. She also emphasizes the importance of being thorough in her
field, getting completely informed consent for example, is a big part of her routine practice. “You can’t go wrong by taking the time to get fully informed consent, even for the simple things. For example, for botox, what could happen? Why does botox have certain warnings? Who do these warnings apply to?” (Coppola).
